Phonics Song A to Z

⏱ 5:39 👶 Ages 1–4 Watch on YouTube

What happens in the video

Sing, move, repeat and learn! Each letter gets its sound, an action and a familiar object, from A is for apple and B is for ball all the way to Z is for zebra.

Why letter sounds matter

When children start reading, they sound words out: b-a-t, bat. That uses the letter’s sound (“buh”), not its name (“bee”). Phonics songs make those sounds stick through rhythm and repetition, and short, regular sing-alongs work better than long sessions.

Try this at home

  • Letter hunt. Pick one letter a day and find things at home that start with its sound.
  • Use the cards. Print our free ABC letter cards and hold one up when its letter comes up in the song.
  • Sound first. When your child points to a letter, say its sound before its name.
